Please include a general time that would work for you, and what you’d like to work on with your dog(s). Lessons will be held in an open pasture- no round pen available. Sorry, my sheep are not appropriate for very beginning stockdogs.

Getting to Lopez requires a ride on the WA State ferry. The current schedule can be found at link

In order to save on costs, if anyone wants to walk on the ferry rather than drive, I am offering to shuttle people & dogs to and from the ferry, within reason. If you do wish to drive on the ferry, Lopez is a beautiful place to explore. It is a very dog-friendly community with many places to hike with your dog off-leash. We also have a small village with a bakery & art galleries, plus several local farms with self-serve farmstands.
To the Anacortes Ferry Landing: From I-5 (north or south), take exit 230 to Anacortes/Burlington/WA-20. Follow the signs to WA-20 toward Anacortes. When 20 turns left to Oak Harbor/Whidbey Island, go STRAIGHT through the light (DO NOT turn left to Oak Harbor!) to the WA-20 Spur into Anacortes. At the round-about take the first right onto Commercial Ave. Follow Commercial to the light at the Safeway. Turn left on 12th St (there are signs for the San Juan Ferry Landing). Follow 12th to the Ferry Landing (take the slight right at the light at the ferry- again, there are signs). Proceed to the ticket booth & follow the ferry worker’s directions. The ferry landing is roughly 1.5 hrs from Seattle, 55 min from Bellingham, and 2 hrs from Diane Pagel’s place in Carnation. If you plan to drive on the ferry, plan to arrive at least ONE HOUR before the ferry leaves. Walk-ons need only arrive 30 min early
From the Ferry Landing to Hill Farm: Once off the ferry, continue on Ferry Road for approx. 2.1 mi until you come to a Y-intersection. Turn LEFT up the hill onto Center Road (note that there is no stop sign here- do not follow the road as it continues to the right!). Continue on Center Road. You will go past Cross Road, through a dog-leg turn, and through the intersection of Hummel Lake Road & Center Road. Hummel Lake will be on your left. After the trees, on the left, you’ll see a woven-wire fence & an orchard on a hillside. At the end of the fence (approx 2.7 mi from Ferry Road), turn LEFT on Lopez Sound Road. The driveway is at the top of the hill on the left. You’ll see a sign above the entryway.
Cell phone reception is very poor on the island. If you get delayed, please call my home number (above) and leave a message.

I cannot offer camping, overnight accommodations, or parking for camper-trailers. There are many places to stay on Lopez, and camping is available at Odlin County Park; Spencer Spit State Park.
