While on my eleven day vacation in Oregon, I spotted these beautiful birds. Does anyone know they are? They were very curious and hung out near me. There was about ten or so and were quite stunning, flying about and checking us out.
I am not too sure what these birds were doing but they would fly and hover in one spot for a long time. There was some some serious wind action during the day and they would dart off to hover for a few minutes and then sit on a perch. They were not hunting for insects but just hovering in the air. It was quite nice to see this. I tried to take a bunch more of photos but it was hard as most of them came out blurry. (Click on the pixs to see a larger view)
More hovering.
They were a stunning shade of blue.
Perched on the fence.
I think this was the female. She would dart to the ground and hop about and then fly off.
This guy stayed quite close to me and kept a close eye on me.
I really think he wanted my Mike's Hard Lemonade.
Or perhaps, he was enjoying this view.
Or maybe this view. He had good taste.

I agree too, bluebirds for sure.
Bob is the bird expert here and he said they look like Western Bluebirds. He has a whole library on birds.
Thanks to everyone who id the birds as Western Bluebirds. They were very beautiful and curious. Very friendly as well and got very close to me. It was a lovely day in the sun.
