Who is the Boss?

Some would say the barn cat is the boss of the farm? After all, Rigby cleans the farm out of moles, mice, rats, shrews and voles. He makes sure all the Border Collies know he can chase them but they can't chase him. He greets everyone as they arrive and loves to leave muddy prints all over their trucks or cars.

Then, you have Kodiak who is the seasoned Great Pyr who has been here for many years. Kodi saved the sheep when we had a huge barn fire by forcing them out of the barn and to safety. He also chases the coyotes away as well as making sure the eagles or crows or ravens do not try to kill the new borne lambs. He also announces when we have visitors.

Did someone forget to tell Kodi and Rigby that dogs and cats are supposed to mortal enemies? Yes, I think they didn't get that memo!!

But the real boss is not Kodi or Rigby. Tess or Nan may think they are the bosses also. Getty or I sometimes think we are the bosses too!!

BUT,   the real boss is my mom. See how everyone is behaving for her!! Even me!!

Rumbled Smoked Salmon

England has Bubble and Squeak, Ireland Colcannon and in Scotland the delicious fry-up of vegetables is called Rumbledethumps

Ingredients:

 8 oz cooked cabbage

1 lb cooked and mashed potatoes

1 small onion, finely chopped

6 oz sliced smoked salmon

 ¾ stick of butter

3 oz ) sour cream

Salt and pepper to taste

Directions

1. Preheat the oven to 375F and grease a large baking tray.
2. Fry the finely chopped onion in butter in a pan until soft and golden
3. Remove from the heat, add the cooked cabbage and mashed potatoes, season with salt and pepper to taste and mix well.
4. Shape into rounds about ¾ inch thick and to a size which suits you. 
5. Place the rounds on the greased baking tray and cook for 10/15 minutes 
6. Cool and then place a folded slice of smoked salmon on each round with a teaspoonful of sour cream on top.

The Overseer

Life's tough when you are retired. First, you must make sure you JUDGE the runs at the trial. After all, you were one of the top Open dogs and ran at the Finals in Nursery and Open, and know the routine, therefore you are more than qualified to judge and all. Plus ran the sheep farm for almost 10 years.

You must set yourself directly behind the handler. "Is their fetch line straight?"

"Nope, offline" as she leans to the left.

OK, done with judging and now to do a posing photo for her adoring fans.

"Dang it, it is cold out here"

"Time for a snow bath"

"Gotta shake off and I guess I am going to set for the Open class now"

Tess has decided she is working a lot harder now that she is retired, judging class, setting for the classes and being my navigator. She no doubt will be asking for a raise or at least another cookie!!

Roo's run

These are the pixs from last week. Roo ran in Open and listened quite well. I was very pleased with him.
